Aloha Bj,

We just wanted to thank you again for the wonderful series of programs that you presented on Star Princess. We knew little to nothing about horses, but your talks were captivating. We are now enjoying your CD almost every day while we eat lunch.

We have been on 70 cruises, so we have been able to hear a wide range of programs. Prior to this cruise, our all time favorite was a gentlemen who presented a history of rock and roll music, including pictures and recordings. Your programs have moved at least into a tie for the top with this other series. I guess that when it comes to entertainers, that puts you right up there with Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger. Hope the Queen agrees, and we will soon be able to start calling you Sir Bj.

Thanks again for a wonderful series of talks!

I first saw Bj perform in an open mic session at the Western Music Association’s annual convention in Albuquerque. For ten years I was the talent wrangler for the Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Durango, Colorado and I was at the convention scouting talent. I knew after one poem that Bj was not just a good writer/poet, but he was a great entertainer. Well, I was determined to get him to Durango the following year and I tracked him down. I found a sponsor for his airfare and we made it happen.

He has a wealth of material and delivers it flawlessly with his impeccable timing and delivery, whether comic or serious. He is as fun to watch as he is to listen to. He has a great ability to read his audience and interact with them. In addition to participating in Durango’s Gathering several times, he has also done a house concert for me and had no trouble carrying it on his own. Audiences love him regardless of background or age. His material is creative, can be hilariously funny or thought-provoking. He does a great job of setting up his poems with an introduction that prepares them for what is to follow and gives glimpses of himself so that the audience feels a connection.

Bj’s name should be: Bj Master Word-Smith.

Bj Smith draws upon his experience as a retired mountie, packer, horse trainer, ski patroller, and back country guide to feed his appetite for stories and poems. His heart's in the Rocky Mountains, summer or winter on horseback or skis. He has instructed outdoor recreation and wilderness survival courses at the University and College level and is a strong advocate of therapeutic riding for the disabled. Bj's book of cowboy poetry, "Mounties, Mountains and Memories" is an unqualified success at western festivals and gather'ns throughout western Canada and the USA where he is routinely featured as an entertainer. His biography, "A Legend of the Nahanni" was forced into second printing after only hours on the market and is fast becoming a must read by anyone interested in adventure and the wild frontier. His third book, "The Wilderness Wrangler" is packed with everything the outdoor enthusiast needs to know to enjoy the back country on horseback. Together with accomplished singer / songwriter Ed Brown, their CD "A Cowboy Collaboration" received the Will Rogers Award as the Academy of Western Artists Cowboy Poetry CD of the Year. You can find all of these on the Merchandise Page.
